03 Apr 2007 The Devil’s Backbone — Day Two

That’s one of the names for the Natchez Trace — “The Devil’s Backbone.” There were some parts of the trace that were almost impassable. It could be, as the nickname says, “devilish.” We did quite a bit of walking on the second day. The others wore me out! We saw a beaver dam (more like a home), AND the beaver!! We went into a “dangerous” cave! We ate jelly beans! And one of the highlights of the day was meeting Per Gustafsson. He was from Sweden and was bicycling the trace, on his way to Nashville. No car, phone, GPS, anything. Just a bike and food. We talked for about half an hour and all about his trips all over the world. He was quite the colorful character.
